About

Hey- I’m Tate. I was born on the eastern shore of Maryland in May 1999. Growing up, you could’ve found me exploring in the woods, at the beach, drawing skateboard brand logos, playing dress up, practicing guitar, making videos with my sister, Emmi, or obsessing over whatever sport was in season. As i got into highschool and my interests began to shift away from atheltics, my fascination for surfing and the art of documenting my friends grew rapidly. Heavily influenced by Kai Neville and the gang at What Youth (rip), i shot my shot at piecing together surf videos in a pirated version of Final Cut Pro. I fell in love with the process of taking raw footage, altering the color, adding music, splicing in b-roll, and cutting to the beat to make a whole new world and feel. I went to college in North Carolina (UNCW) where i studied film but was unfulfilled by the program because it felt too rigid and focused more on theory rather than a hands on approach.  Eager to make stuff, I enrolled in an intro to studio art class my junior year which was the prerequisite for the rest of classes in the art program. I then signed up for intro to sculpture where my professor, Andi Steele, taught me how to approach art with intention and deep meaning. I rediscovered that same feeling that I once felt as a teenager making surf videos.  I could take a raw material, reshape it, paint it, add on to it, combine, subrtact, and then step back and stare at how it exists in the the world. I was hooked. Ever since then, I’ve been on a journey to dig deeper into that feeling, which has led me to exploring all sorts of different mediums and crafts.  When I was 21 and still living in NC, me and some friends (Evan Oliva, Nathan Greenlee, and Ian Schulte) developed a clothing brand called “sprwl” which was mainly screen printed tshirts. This was my introduction to collaboration, screen printing, having a studio, graphic design, product photo+video, working with models, art direction, pop-ups, and a little bit of business. It was the perfect way to practice and learn all the things that interested me. While sprwl eventually dwindeld, the impact that it left on me was permanent and I knew that I wanted to continue to grow as an artist and screen printer. In 2023, I moved to Brooklyn, NY and lucked into working with Kyle Warfield and Julia Belamarich of Extra Vitamins. At EV, Kyle and I handled all of the in house screen printing, which was hefty work but incredibly rewarding. Soon, I was also given the trust and responsibilty to work closely with Kyle and Julia on devopling the visuals for each monthly drop. This usually entailed us going out into the woods, shooting 1-2 models wearing the collection’s pieces, editing the photos, tangibly manipulating the photos, and then scanning them back into a digital version for the website and instagram. I always say that working at EV was my real college experience. I got to basically be a fly on the wall, watching+listening to Kyle and Julia creatively problem solve, design, discuss art, and run a business all while further practicing my own screen pritning, collaboration, photography, and design skills. I am forever grateful for my time and experience working under Kyle and Julia. I learned so much from you guys <3. In the begininng of 2025, I went out on my own as a freelancer, producing show flyers, album art, merch design, music videos and artist/band pics for friends like Renny Conti and Crate. I also linked up with good friend, Cody Hudgins of Crate, and scored a tiny studio where we both screen print independently, making merch for bands in the local brooklyn scene. I approach every project as a collaboration with whoever im working with or whatever material i’m using, with intention, deep meaning, patience, and always by hand. Thank you for reading this far and please reach out to work together.
